ArtScape Jamestown Opens Its 2025 Call for Artists and Sponsors

by | Nov 30, 2024 | Uncategorized

The Jamestown Renaissance Corporation is partnering with Chautauqua Art Gallery, Pearl City Clay House and the City of Jamestown Parks Department to create an outdoor public art gallery in downtown Jamestown, N.Y. Artists of all ages who live in Chautauqua County or within 35 miles of Jamestown are invited to participate in this juried art competition.

Selected works are reproduced on banners that hang on light posts throughout the downtown area. Chautauqua Art Gallery, on Main Street in downtown Jamestown, supports this program as the host sponsor, displaying the original works of art and coordinating artists and banner production. We are excited to have Pearl City Clay House join our partnership this year as a co-host for the original art show.

ArtScape aims to create an outdoor gallery experience in the heart of the community. The colorful banners add interest and intrigue to the downtown streetscape, encouraging pedestrians and vehicle traffic to slow down and enjoy the display. Each banner showcases local artists, highlighting the creativity and talent of artists who live and work in the region.

Interested artists may submit up to three works for consideration to the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation. A jury comprised of arts professionals will select 58 pieces to be included in the 2025 program. The chosen works are professionally photographed for display on the banners. Local businesses can sponsor a banner, and the names of the artists and the sponsors are featured on the banners. At the end of the outdoor display, the banners are removed and given to the sponsor, or the sponsor may choose to donate the banner to the artist. The sponsor does not receive reproduction rights to the work. However, they are encouraged to display the banner in their place of business, highlighting their support for enriching the community through public art programs.

Banners will be hung in June of 2025, and a brochure with a walking tour of the banners will be distributed.

In addition to our partnership with Pearl City Clay House, we are thrilled to announce that six banners have been earmarked for creating a youth category for artists under 18 years old.

“I am proud to see the ArtScape program continue to evolve and am looking forward to sharing our original art show with Pearl City Clay House.”, said Leslie Calimeri, owner of Chautauqua Art Gallery on Main Street in Jamestown. As art submissions have increased each year, this partnership will give us more room to display artwork and allow us to create an art walk experience between the two galleries.”

“ArtScape is a perfect fit for the mission of Pearl City Clay House, and I am excited to co-host the original art show in 2025.”, said Deb Eck, PCCH Program Director. We look forward to welcoming artists to our new gallery and introducing even more people to the Clay House.

“This unique program has increased the walkability of downtown while engaging the arts and business communities. We are excited to see the addition of a youth category in 2025 as we work to engage our entire community and bring more visitors to downtown Jamestown.”, said Frank Besse, Executive Director of the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation.

Interested artists and those interested in sponsoring a banner can find information and an application at https://www.jamestownrenaissance.org/artscape/  The deadline for both artists and sponsorship is February 24, 2025
